Ohio Dog Law Forum
Avery’s Law (House Bill 247), effective March 18, 2026, strengthens Ohio's dangerous dog regulations. It imposes stricter criminal penalties (up to six months in jail) for owners negligent in preventing dog attacks, allows immediate seizure of dogs after attacks, and requires euthanasia for dogs who cause serious injury or death.
We will host a panel open to the public to inform of this new law. In addition to Sharon Harvey, President and CEO of the Cleveland Animal Protection League, we are planning for panelists from Lucas County Canine Care and Control, Toledo Humane Society, and the Toledo Police Department.
